The longest natural sand spit in North America, the trail begins with a half-mile trek through lush forest to the beach. At the end of the 5.5 mile spit is the New Dungeness Lighthouse. This wildlife refuge is home to 250 species of birds, 49 species of land and marine mammals. Be sure to pack food and water, and check the tides before you go. There is a $3 entry fee.
